Tessa Roseboom, vice-chair:

‘We want to use science to benefit society. We do this not only through innovations in healthcare, but also by contributing to solving social challenges. For example, by interpreting new scientific insights, but also by translating our knowledge into policy and practice.’

Amsterdam Valorisation Board (AVB)

The AVB consists of a number of valorisation officers from each research institute, the vice deans of education and research, the head of IXA (see elsewhere on this page), and a number of staff advisors. The AVB members are the point of contact for valorisation within the research institutes; PIs can use this channel to ask policy questions to the AVB.

Arjen Brussaard, chair:

“Valorisation is our responsibility and our societal mission. As a leading knowledge institution, it is important that we create societal added value. We can achieve this in various ways and through various strategies. As the Amsterdam Valorisation Board, we have laid down the principles of Amsterdam UMC's valorisation policy in a position paper.”

Valorisation Strategy and Policy team

Frederique Bambach, Valorisation Strategy and Policy Lead:

“The five of us form the Valorisation Strategy and Policy team. You can come to us for advice and support on valorisation issues, from strategy to implementation. We are working on developing and implementing the valorisation policy for Amsterdam UMC, and we encourage the culture needed to bring this policy to life in practice. We are here to help you develop your ideas, establish connections with partners, and translate opportunities into concrete projects. We are your sparring partner for strategy, policy, and culture surrounding valorisation."

IXA

Joris Heus, director of IXA Amsterdam UMC:

“The IXA-Amsterdam UMC team supports you in converting academic knowledge from fundamental and applied research into impactful applications and innovations. We also actively engage companies and organizations for collaborative projects with our researchers and negotiate the terms of the contracts. In this way, we support the transformation of scientific knowledge into solutions that contribute to a better world.”
